What is what! A short introduction to understand what we do:

  1. Edge Sharpening: We sharpen the edges of skis using specialized tools to ensure better control on icy or hard-packed snow.

  2. Base Repair and Maintenance: Skis often endure scratches, gouges, or base damage. We repair these damages by filling them in with special materials and smoothing the base for better gliding.

  3. Waxing: Applying wax to the base of skis helps reduce friction and improves glide. Skilled tuners choose the right wax depending on snow conditions and temperatures.

  4. Overall Inspection: We carefully inspect the skis for any other issues like delamination, cracks, or structural problems that might affect their performance.

  5. Hot box prep: A hot box in ski preparation refers to a specialized piece of equipment used to apply heat and temperature-controlled conditions to skis. This process involves placing the skis in a heated chamber for an extended period. The temperature is carefully regulated and maintained at a specific level (often around 120-140°F or 50-60°C) for a duration ranging from several hours to a day.The primary purpose of a hot box in ski preparation is to allow wax to penetrate deeply into the base of the skis. This deep penetration of wax can provide several benefits like Better Wax Absorption (the heat opens up the pores of the ski base, allowing the wax to seep deeper into the structure. This results in better wax absorption and retention), Improved Base Performance (deper wax penetration helps to ensure a more durable wax application. It can lead to enhanced glide, better performance in various snow conditions, and increased overall speed on the course), Base Conditioning (the heat can also help condition the base material, rejuvenating it and potentially extending the life of the ski)

The hot box process is typically used for high-performance tuning or race preparation, as it offers a more thorough wax application than traditional methods. Skis are often prepped with a base wax and then placed in the hot box to allow the wax to fully penetrate the base material. We reccomend this treatment especially with new skis and stone grind skis.
